PICO-8 and not being overwhelmed.
Today, I bought myself the PICO-8 "fantasy video game console" as it is called on Wikipedia.
In short, it allows people to make games with a tool set inspired by 8-bit video game consoles.
Well, perhaps inspired isn't the right word, it straight up mimics them. That may or may not sound odd to you, but for me it sounds perfect.
I've tried Unity, Godot, Gamemaker, and maybe others I cannot remember. But every time, the amount of buttons to press and things to look at made me feel lost and confused.
This one should help me focus on actually making progress on my projects, instead of spending who knows how long learning my way around the GUI of a fully-fledged game engine.
I have some vague concepts in my head for what I want to do, but I'll keep them to myself, less I promise to make something I cannot actually complete.
Now that I think about it, most technology I use today is filled with functions I never use. Not sure if that's a bad thing, but I sometimes feel like developers inject their software, operating systems, and many other things with new technology just to make their stuff look more interesting on paper.
Anyway, I'll keep posting here as I make progress on this hobby that I long couldn't really wrap my head around.
